Installing a Fluid-applied Watertight Solution at a Pharmacy

Published by Eileen Ybarra on May 19, 2025

Our team helped a pharmacy restore one of their existing metal roofs with a fluid-applied system and replace existing skylights.

This included evaluating the existing performance of the metal substrate, installing a new fluid-applied roofing system, and using proprietary processes. The main purpose of this project was for the customer to bring the roof of their building back to top performance without the disruption of replacement, and to address existing skylight concerns. Timing was also important for this customer because they wanted to ensure the surface got a waterproofing solution as soon as possible.

Conditions

Since we were restoring a pharmacy’s roof, there was daily traffic going in and out of the building. This made it imperative for our team to plan proactively with the customer to mitigate any major disruptions. Additionally, weather during springtime in the Midwest can be unpredictable. So, our team had to work diligently to best plan for installation days and often work within small windows of good weather.

Challenges

The primary challenge our team faced while restoring this property, besides the unpredictable weather, was skylight concerns. Previously, the customer had been experiencing leaks coming from the skylights on their roof. Therefore, they wanted them replaced and sealed watertight with our advanced fluid-applied acrylic solution.

Process & System Information

To provide predictable and consistent results, our team used our systematic communication with the customer to ensure they had information throughout the entire project. Our team restored the existing metal roof with a fluid-applied acrylic roofing system. This also resulted in the customer gaining a manufacturer backed 15-year Labor, Material, and Workmanship Warranty.

Timeline

This project was expected to take 1 week, but with the intentionality of our team, we completed the project within 5 days.

Outcome & Benefits

This project restored the existing metal roof of a pharmacy with an acrylic solution backed by a 15-year Labor, Material, and Workmanship Warranty. During the final walk-through, the customer was very pleased with the project’s outcome and happy to have a new watertight system installed to SPEC.
