FAQ: Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) Roofing Solutions

Published by Eileen Porzuczek on December 9, 2024

There are many fluid-applied and restoration roofing solutions available on the market. One of them being Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) roofing solutions, which offer a wide range of benefits to building owners and asset managers. But not sure what these benefits are or how they could be a good fit for your properties?

In this blog, our team of go-to restoration specialists will answer frequently asked questions that offer insight into benefits you can gain with SPF roofing solutions.

1. Can SPF roofing solutions be installed over my existing roof substrate?

You can install SPF roofing systems over your existing roof substrate and can restore your roof to top performance without an entire tear off and replacement. These multi-layered solutions can easily be installed on site and add performance value to your property’s existing surface.

2. Are these systems installed seamlessly? How does this feature add value?

SPF systems install seamlessly because they don’t require any fasteners. The system adheres fully to the underlying substrate. This adds value because your roof can maintain better insulation because heating and cooling are less likely to escape the building’s interior. A typical White Hat Industrial SPF system adds an R-10 insulating factor to the roof. This can have dramatic benefits for energy and the overall building climate.

3. Can SPF roofing systems be easily installed around penetrations, like HVAC units?

SPF roofing systems can easily be installed around penetrations, like HVAC units, because they can be sprayed around the penetration base. SPF forms directly to all contours of the roof and fills every gap and contour. This helps seal any penetration openings that could become an issue. The system is watertight within 10 minutes and is treated further with an additional waterproofing layer on the same day. This provides peace of mind with two fully adhered, seamless, watertight layers across the roof.

4. How much disruption can I expect during installation?

SPF solutions allow for minimal to ZERO disruption during installation because they don’t require a complete tear off and replacement. Only isolated areas of saturation are marked and removed. This is a great option if your building is trafficked frequently or unable to stop daily operations for installation.

5. Is the cost of an SPF system expensive?

Typically, the cost of a SPF solution is competitive in pricing because there is no tear off and material disposal necessary. However, this can depend on the unique property specifications.

6. Is the cost of an SPF system expensive?

If you choose to install a SPF roofing system now, you can choose to renew that system and its warranty in the future. This is a great option if you’re interested in saving on maintenance costs long-term.
